habanero-koramangala

project narrative

habanero koramangala

“Habanero- a Tex-mex restaurant in Bangalore- is named after the hot chili pepper used in Mexican “comida de la calle” (street food).“

The “obras de arte” painted niches in the wall emulating windows with sloped sun-shades in the typical Mediterranean half-round clay tiles depicting Mexican streetscape, grille patterns, lights and plaster bands all come together to recreate the Mexican ”calle” (street). Lighting is largely diffused with multi-coloured glass drop lights illuminating the tables.
A china mosaic display of the restaurant logo is set in the wall that greets the guests as they enter the restaurant. Soft-edged walls are hand-plastered with undulations on the surface and niche that house the bar display.
An outdoor area with a view of the street accommodates large groups of people by means of fixed seating adorned with china-mosaic patterns and the view continues on the inside as well with a large glass wall providing uninterrupted views of the outside..
Design elements and details reflect Mexican architecture and portray a lifestyle of festivity, music, dance and spicy food.
