About the project

This Residential bungalow is designed by Ar. Ajay Kulkarni and this is his own house. There are total three floors with basement. The underground floor is a hall, the ground floor consists of living room, family lounge, kitchen, dining and bedroom. First floor consists of bedrooms, library and music room.

Story

Designed to respond efficiently to the climate, the house is designed to cater to the requirement of a studio at the cellar and a 3 bed room house on the ground floor and the first floor. The plot has an access from south side and its design makes use of available south side light. This has enabled to create a promenade of shadows. The sunlight is very effective inside, and penetrates till the cellar, which is used as a studio.

Constructed out of one and half thick brick walls the building wears a monumental look and offers a fresh white background for the play of light from sunrise till it sets.Built on a south facing plot, catching the sunlight throughout the day.The form is inspired by the cave architecture and the unfolding of its spaces obeys the discipline of the cave architecture which is the immediate context of the work. It is desired to adore the inner spaces with the graphics and calligraphy to make the volumes more meaningful and humane. It is very evident while one walks through its spaces that the influences are very distinct and complex in character as the context of the building retaining a great variety of typologies ranging from caves to forts to traditional houses to Islamic architecture to temples etc.
