Pravaah
-Alfred Lord Tennyson
This snippet from the poem “The Brook” brings to mind this home, flanked by several large canopy trees deep within a lush, vibrantly wooded region spread across a site of 1.5 acres. A sensitive approach was adopted by not uprooting these staunch sentinels upon the land. The home was conceived to be built around the trees, in a natural, meandering fashion, in conjunction with its surroundings and winding its way through them as an organic extension. Additionally, the design allowed for water bodies on the premises, resulting in a series of independent built spaces that are interconnected and fluid in traversal, resulting in a creation of space that does not feel like it is forcing itself upon its environs. The presence of a shrine, amidst the five elements of nature, is a poetic nod to the sense of place and belonging that emanate from the surroundings, bringing with it a certain meditative quality.
