General: Call for ideas – Karona Kuch

“How do we make the world a better place as designers in a society that is stuck in global threat?”
A thorough reflection of how we were all stuck in our homes due to Covid-19 and made use of the productive time were replicated in making the spaces we previously designed to be converted into relief camps, centers and facilities.
Yes! This idea surfaced through the gates of our imagination when the world stumbled upon how migrants and people from different cities were traveling to their natives and millions of them rendering homeless.
What would be an immediate and temporary solution for this adverse effect on people? As simple as utilizing our public buildings as a make-shift facility for this social cause. How can a simple theatre or a mall be utilized for people who in other ways do not own a living?
Showcased here are some ways in which we took a step ahead and converted some of our well-known community-owned projects to a facility.
Story:
“DESIGN THINKING – FINDING A WAY FORWARD WITH AGASTYA’S MEANINGFUL RESPONSE”
Agastya Campus in Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh is our project that exactly translates into one of our ideologies of changing the way education is!
Spread across 170 Acres, this creative expanse of structures and land could be converted into innumerable facilities, as it was the need of the hour. With the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, an adaptation of pre-existing structures into medical and awareness facilities has become the need of the hour. This campus hosts various remarkable platforms for teaching – Auditorium, 2 bio-discovery centres, Art and innovation hub, Marine centre and accommodation for researchers, teaching faculties, etc.
To restrict the spread of the virus and still achieve societal goals, the simplest way is to find solutions that can be done using the existing amenities at the campus. With the far-fetched reach Agastya has over the rural fabric and the government, this institution could be the ideal bridge between the two.
“SO HOW DO WE CONVERT THESE SPACES INTO AN EFFECTIVE AND EVENTFUL ONE DURING THE LOCKDOWN WITH STAY-AT-HOME RULES!”
This wide-spread campus containing large spaces could be converted into medical centres which have a very little installation time period. This purpose could be to conduct health and orientation programs and even be a testing and quarantine centre.
The residential facilities could be a make-shift quarantine centre for migrant workers and other people who were rendered homeless.
During these testing times, our primary target could be to keep up the positivity and aspirations of the minorities higher and to serve the purpose.
