When the clients approached us to refurbish their bar in the air force officer’s mess, we faced the challenge of creating their own personal castle in the sky, literally.One of the most challenging aspects of the project was to really ‘surprise a bunch of straight laced air force guys’, so we changed the literal context in which they look at their everyday equipment and enthused otherwise useless junk with whole new life and humor.
The tangible, palpable object related specificity of the interior anointed with recycled wreckage is an experience to the aesthetic perception. The abandoned wreckage has been enthused with a new lease of life and its context has been rewritten. The wreckage is intricately linked to the design, making the ambiance unique and an irreplaceable entity with a distinct identity.
We live and move buildings that influence the way we act and think. The design has to fulfill certain pragmatic requirements determining the sphere within which the architect’s creativity can operate. It is not the design and elements alone, but the way it relates to the environmental context that constitutes the most important aspect of holistic design.The design professes the three R’s -reduce, reuse and recycle.
